    Description

Construction was begun by Çandarlı Halil Hayrettin Paşa, one of the first viziers of the Ottoman state, and completed after his death by his son Ali Paşa. According to the gate inscriptions, it was built in 1378-79 and completed in 1391-1392. Its architect was Hacı, son of Musa.

The main prayer space has a square plan of 11x11 meters and is covered by a dome resting on an octagonal drum. The minaret, which gives the mosque its name, is clad in turquoise, green, and purple İznik tiles in a zigzag motif; glazed brick is also used on the shaft. The marble mihrab is described as the first example in the Ottoman period.

Visit note: The mosque was restored between 1956-69 and entered restoration again in 2015. Its current open/closed status, fee, and hours information are not stated in the sources.
