Description
It is not known with certainty when or for whom the tomb was built; it is thought to predate the Ottoman conquest of İznik. Reused pieces from the Byzantine period were used in the structure.
It consists of two nearly equal-sized square-plan spaces aligned north-south; the two spaces are connected by a molded doorway, and the southern space is covered by a dome. It contains seven large sarcophagi and one child's sarcophagus. Hand-painted decoration can be seen on the dome and at the edges of the upper windows. The original sections of the iwan are built of three courses of roughly hewn stone.
